Described as “minced beef with mashed potato and potato pieces, plus red pepper, onion, lemon, tarragon, spices and seasoning. Great texture and flavour make this meal very moreish.” I couldn’t not try this one out. At £6.95 for 650 calories, weighing 163g, it is a bit light for the calorie count for what we need, but flavour is important too, and I could always eat 2 right?
Simple to use, tear open, add the prescribed amount of boiling water, stir well, and reseal for 10 mins, then ready to eat. The before photo doesn’t look like anything remarkable, but open opening the pack once rehydrated, it looks, and smells like the real deal. Great colour and texture, and it really did smell divine, so no issues digging in! It tastes as it was described, the mash was fluffy, and it had some great seasoning, being able to clearly taste the tarragon and beef. It was flavoursome and filling, and although its description lends itself to lunch or dinner, I am quite looking forward to eating this on the Kalahari as a breakfast option.

After a night roughing it in the Kalahari desert, I think a tasty, home style mashed potato will do just the trick. 4 out of 5 for this one, I’ll be back in their website soon to get myself some more along with some other flavours as well, I might just need to double up the portions. It’s a shame they don’t do these in an extra large pack, perhaps an idea for the future Bla Band?  Get yours at Outdoors Grub!
